Schmidbauer turns 90 - and continues to look ahead

The future: Constantly different, tangible more

Schmidbauer, the leading provider of mobile cranes and special transports, is celebrating its 90th birthday. Since 1932, the family-run company in Gräfelfing near Munich, Germany has been the innovator of the industry. Constantly oriented towards the future, Schmidbauer focuses on quality and competence, combined with 360-degree solutions that make the success of challenging projects possible.

Werner Schmidbauer, CEO, says:

"Schmidbauer always moves with the times, but also consistently goes its own way. For us, keeping up with the times means opening up new areas of business while at the same time bearing social responsibility. Thus, commitment in the context of climate protection and the energy transition is high on our agenda. With our experience and expertise, we are helping to ensure that things move forward with a reorientation in energy supply and that our CSR strategy works."

For a green turnaround to succeed, new structures must be created throughout Europe. Schmidbauer is actively involved in this significant generational project.

Europe-wide partner for the energy turnaround

Regionally as well as Europe-wide, Schmidbauer is a reliable partner supporting projects that advance the energy transition. Schmidbauer know-how is not only used in Germany - but the company has even been called to Antarctica. This is because Schmidbauer offers its so-called "Performance Plus", which includes human expertise, engineering, and project management on the one hand, and additional equipment and devices of all kinds on the other - full service is the paradigm.

For many years, Schmidbauer has been realizing sustainable projects with a value-adding character, including in northern Europe. On one of the longest construction sites in Scandinavia (around 70 kilometers), the company is securing the installation of wind turbines. Werner Schmidbauer analyzes with an eye to the future:

"Wind power and renewable energy in general have already become a hobbyhorse of ours. We have shown that we can do this and would like to push this area. Of course, this also includes the SuedOstLink project."

Key role in the SuedOstLink

The SuedOstLink is one of the two "electricity highways" that will transport green electricity from the coast to the south in the future. The actual construction phase is expected to begin in 2024, but the components already must be delivered. Gigantic cable drums are being shipped from Gron, near Paris, to Regensburg, Germany. Schmidbauer is unloading and storing them there. Later, in-house special transports will deliver the material to the corresponding construction sites. Stefan Schmidbauer, Managing Director and responsible for the Heavy Lift division, says:

"This is a large and extremely important project and, in its entirety, absolutely new territory. We are very well prepared, are working according to plan and are looking forward to continuing our activities in the context of the SuedOstLink."

Just how difficult and central this task is, can be seen from the fact that the order was preceded by a two-year tendering process, after which Schmidbauer was selected. A great responsibility that is gladly taken on - with the help of a 300-ton crawler crane purchased specifically for this purpose.

What does the future hold?

Werner Schmidbauer says:

"We don't stop when things get difficult. On the contrary, that's when we really get to work. We want to solve complex problems individually. To ensure this, we need close communication with our customers."

Not service by the book, but real cooperation is the goal of the mobile crane and heavy load expert.

The motto for the next few years is "Constantly different, tangible more". This can also be understood as a successful summary of the Schmidbauer brand: Confidence in decades of experience with a simultaneous spirit of innovation; reliability that is trusted and exceeds what can be expected. Werner Schmidbauer sums up:

"90 years of Schmidbauer are a great pleasure. This makes us proud and allows us to continue to look to the future with the utmost motivation and self-confidence."

It remains exciting to see where the company is moving in the future - and what it will move in the future.
